Chitosan and nematophagous fungi for sustainable management of nematode pests

چکیده
Plants are exposed to large number of threats caused by herbivores and pathogens which cause important losses on crops. Plant such as nematodes can severe damage in food security crops worldwide. Chemical pesticides were extendedly used for nematode management. However, due their adverse effects human health the environment, they now facing strong limitations regulatory organisations EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). Therefore, there is an urgent need alternative efficient control measures, biological agents or bio-based plant protection compounds. In this scenario, chitosan, a non-toxic polymer obtained from seafood waste mainly, becoming increasingly important. Chitosan N-deacetylated form chitin. effective pests diseases. It also induces plants defence mechanisms. compatible with some biocontrol microorganisms mainly entomopathogenic nematophagous fungi. Some them antagonists animals. The fungus Pochonia chlamydosporia has been widely studied sustainable management affecting economically its capability grow chitosan only nutrient source. This infects eggs using hyphal tips appressoria. colonizes roots endophytically, stimulating defences induction salicylic jasmonic acid biosynthesis favours growth development. combined use fungi could be novel strategy other root

Developing sustainable systems for nematode management.
Early researchers identified key concepts and developed tactics for multiple-option management of nematodes. Although the emphasis on integrated pest management over the past three decades has promoted strategies and tactics for nematode management, comprehensive studies on the related soil biology-ecology are relatively recent. Traditional management tactics include host resistance (where avai...
متن کاملThe living strategy of nematophagous fungi
The infection structures, trophism, and ecological character of nematophagous fungi are reviewed in this article on the basis of data extracted from the literature and the most recent experiments conducted in this area. Traditionally, nematophagous fungi are classifi ed into four groups according to their modes of attacking nematodes: nematode-trapping fungi using adhesive or mechanical hyphal ...

Over one-year period, 150 pasture soil samples and 138 sheep faecal samples, collected from different parts of Iran were screened for the presence of nematophagous fungi. The samples were cultured at 25ºC on chloramphenicol-2% water agar (CHF-WA) plates in the presence of Haemonchus contortus third stage larvae (L3) and checked over a two-month period for characteristic conidia, conidiophores a...
متن کاملUtilization of biopesticides as sustainable solutions for management of pests in legume crops: achievements and prospects
Grain legumes remain important to meet the projected targets relating to food and nutritional security worldwide. The complementation of cereal-based food with grain legumes is a vegetarian diet with high-quality protein. However, the performance of these crops is severely influenced by a number of biotic and abiotic stresses, of which pests and pathogens remain the crucial affecting plants at ...
